When I heard Raphael Saadiq for the first time I was – of all places – in the living room of a fake adobe house in the middle of Albuquerque, New Mexico (yes, it is pretty much exactly like Braking Bad) and I new right there that I wanted to hear more. It´s funny how some musicians touch you in a way that makes them instant favorites.
For those of you who don’t know this wonderful gentleman… He’s a Grammy Award winning singer, songwriter and record producer. Besides producing his critically acclaimed solo albums Ray Ray and Instant Vintage and the newest addition Stone Rollin’ he has worked behind the scenes as a celebrated producer, collaborator and sideman for big-time acts like D’Angelo, John Legend, Joss Stone, The Roots, A Tribe Called Quest, Stevie Wonder, the Bee Gees, Mary J. Blige, TLC, Whitney Houston (R.I.P), Snoop Dogg, and many more… So, all in all he is obviously pretty damn PHantastic!
I recently moved back to my hometown of Berlin, Germany and I was so incredibly stoked to see that he was playing in a pretty small venue! I was determined to go, nobody I knew wanted to come with me (maybe I should start picking my friends according to their musical taste, a couple of jazz friends, a couple of R&B buddies and some Soul Sisters and Brothers… could work) but I didn’t care. I was determined to make this a special evening in my life, nothing was going to stop me from going… and nothing did! Actually one of my friends heard one song and was all in as well, so we made it a very special night in our lives!
It was magical and inspirational! Music is pure love, pure energy, pure heart! Oh, and I took a couple of photos too… I hope u like!
