do what you love what you do

In the last couple of years it has become more and more clear to me that I cannot compromise on my job. I can simply not do anything I don´t enjoy at some level. Whenever I tried, I sucked at it and it just ensured me that I was right in my assumption that we should all be able to do something we are passionate about. That can be the joy of cleaning (though that´s a hard one to keep passionate about), selling stuff you made yourself or working for a company you trust and believe in.

I guess I have always been lucky, I have never cared much about money, though it´s always nice when it is around… But it’s always been more about what I did than how much I was making, needless to say… I never made much. But this isn’t really about me, it’s about a company that I am currently doing an internship with and for the ones who have not heard of them yet… let me introduce: LUSH – Fresh Handmade Cosmetics

To many people this company may be known for their colorfulness and playful scents, for me it was their values that made an impression. It is no secret that many companies have figured out that being an ethical company can sell products. Many companies, even though they might start out with great intentions, fall into the corporate traps where cash is more important than what you started out with. I am very cautious to believe in labels. I recently read the rules on organic production and labeling in the European Union and it is shocking to me. Statements like “The use of pesticides, which may have detrimental effects on the environment or result in the presence of residues in agricultural products, should be significantly restricted.” can just not be taken seriously. I was so frustrated with trying to be a conscious consumer and simply not knowing who to trust anymore…

And then I found Lush and Lush found me. Their products are 100% vegetarian, over 80% vegan, they believe in absolutely no animal testing, neither for their ingredients nor for their finished products and actively Fight Animal Testing. On June 19th 2012 they launched the LUSH PRIZE to encourage anyone who can bring an end to animal cruelty for the sake of cosmetics. They believe in having fun during work, in doing what you love and even though they have become a pretty large company, they have not compromised on their beliefs. They like the rebels, the underdogs and they will fight for them, fight with them! They are a campaigning company and it is nice to know – first hand – that the people behind the campaigns actually give a damn!

Lush Fresh Handmade Cosmetics Charity PotI could go on an on about the things I like about this company, like the fact that they make solid products to avoid packaging and preservatives, that they created a body lotion called Charity Pot to give back to Grassroots groups, who usually have trouble getting funds, since they are not as popular as big charities. AND every penny you pay actually goes to the organization (except for taxes and trust me, if they could they would change that too). As I said, I could go on and on… but I won’t, so if you want to know more watch the video or go to and choose your country of preference!
